Organic certification covers the crop. GOTS requires that certified fibre — then certifies every stage after it, through to the finished product.
What GOTS adds

How to read any label
- “Organic cotton”, uncertifiedOrganic fibre was bought — but no claim at all about how it was processed. Legal, but weak.
- “Made with Organic Materials” (GOTS)At least 70% certified organic fibre, with the full GOTS chain of custody.
- “Organic” (GOTS)At least 95% certified organic fibre, with the full GOTS chain of custody.
- OCS 100 / OCS BlendedTraces the fibre only — not the processing chemistry or labour conditions.
- The real tellAsk for the paperwork. Certified goods travel with a Transaction Certificate naming the certification body and the batch it covers. If a brand can't produce one, the label is decorative.
